EDA Business Development Fund
Overview
The Business Development Fund supports entrepreneurial initiatives and small businesses in Cook County. The program is designed to fund a variety of traditional and non-traditional requests specific to the individual business needs. This grant fund was designed to support projects that contribute to economic development and job creation, while encouraging private investment. Funding for the Business Development Fund is made available through the Cook County/Grand Marais Joint EDA.
Eligible Applicants
For-profit and not-for profit entities are eligible to apply. Cities, towns, or other local units of government are not eligible to apply.
Eligible Projects
Projects that promote economic development, business startup or expansion, and/or job creation. While this list is not inclusive, the following are eligible use examples:

Point of sale system or other software

Website or other marketing efforts

Building construction, improvements, repairs

Building facade improvements

Equipment upgrades or repairs

Staff training, certification, licensure that promotes continued education and workforce development

Redevelopment projects and blight removal
Ineligible Expenses

Management fees, financing costs, franchise fees, debt consolidation, gambling organizations, land or property held for sale or investment, moving costs
Apply
Applications are accepted year round and will be reviewed by the EDA Board of Commissioners as received. All eligible businesses and entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply. Grant funding and availability is limited to EDA’s yearly fund allocation. If approved, grantees will have one year to complete the approved project and submit the necessary reporting information.
